Former Akron (Ohio) Firestone high school offensive lineman Tommy Brown has confirmed to BuckeyeGrove.com that he has transferred from Ohio State to the University of Akron. The redshirt junior offensive lineman had been used sparingly on the offensive line during his Ohio State career and will seek an NCAA hardship waiver for immediate playing time with the Zips.

"Yes, I have transferred to Akron," Brown said via text message to BuckeyeGrove.com.

George Thomas of the Akron Beacon-Journal was the first to report the news of Brown's transfer to the University of Akron earlier on Saturday.

Brown was rated as a 3-star commit by Rivals.com coming out of high school and picked the Buckeyes over Akron, Duke, Michigan State, Toledo and West Virginia among his eight offers.

The 6-foot-4, 310 pound lineman earned his first Varsity O letter in 2013 after seeing action in all 14 games, mostly in special teams action.

An Ohio State football spokesperson told BuckeyeGrove.com earlier on Saturday that he was unaware of any changes to Brown's status at the time of being contacted.
