Broughton getting close to his Ohio State official visit

HOUSTON – Rivals100 defensive lineman Vernon Broughton can be all smiles and laughter off of the field but when the whistle sounds, it is down to business for the Rivals100 star out of the greater Houston area.

We caught up with the 6-foot-6, 280-something pounder on Monday morning as our Southern Swing moved into its second week and Broughton could not have been any friendlier if he tried. But you only have to put his tape in and watch what he is like during a game to see that all stops when it matters most.

The Buckeyes will get a chance to host Broughton on an official visit coming up in June, the second of the process for Broughton. He already had a chance to check out the Texas Longhorns and now the Buckeyes will have the shot to make their case.

As with most defensive linemen, the name of Larry Johnson comes up early and that is no different in this situation as Broughton feels that he is developing a great relationship with the Ohio State line coach.

Broughton is in the process of cutting down his list of 20-something schools down to five or six and that cut will be coming soon with the completion of spring football for his Cypress Ridge team. We already know two of the teams that will make that list, the Longhorns and the Buckeyes. The Sooners could be on the verge of getting a visit as well, so the slots left for Broughton are shrinking in a hurry.

A question that will have to be answered by his future team will be where does he fit on the line? He could play either inside or outside and feels that his speed separates him from a lot of other players, but his size may mandate a move inside.

Check out what else Broughton had to say to us in our exclusive interview as part of our annual Southern Swing which is currently running through the state of Texas.
