Brenton Cox solid with Ohio State

Brenton Cox and Stockbridge moved to 2-0 on Saturday night.

When Ohio State landed Rivals100 defensive end Brenton Cox back in April, many questioned whether the Buckeyes would be able to hold on to the four-star pass rusher. But the 6-foot-4, 245-pound prospect out of Stockbridge (Ga.) has not wavered at all over the past four and a half months. Cox continues to be happy with his pledge to the Buckeyes and is hoping to make the move to Columbus as soon as possible.

"I'm real solid," said Cox after his game on Saturday evening. "I'm trying to get my grades taken care of so I can go there in December. I'm trying to enroll early. I'm straight. I'm not looking around. I'm one-hundred percent with Ohio State."

In the mean time, Cox will be back on campus for his official visit, which he expects to take place towards the end of October when the Buckeyes host Penn State.

"Yeah, that's the game that a lot of us are going there for," he said. "Almost the whole '18 class is going for that."

A big part of keeping Cox in the fold for Ohio State has been his relationship with defensive line coach Larry Johnson. Johnson is always teaching and the big-time pass-rusher is all ears.

"After every game we talk," he explained. "We have a phone call and he lets me know what I need to work on, where I'm doing a good job and where I need to get better."

Cox turned in a strong effort in Saturday evening's 21-7 win over Lovejoy. Dealing with several bumps and bruises, Cox made half a dozen tackles. Against a program like Lovejoy, Cox knew it needed to be all hands on deck and he wasn't going to miss the game.

"I've got some injuries that I'm playing with right now but I just didn't want to lose," said Cox. "They're a good team. I feel like once we get the offense rolling, we'll be straight, this team can be really good."

Without any recruiting distractions, Cox is able to put his full focus right now on his teammates. The sky could be the limit this fall for Stockbridge.

"This team is capable of winning a state championship," he said. "I don't think I could say that about last year's team. This team is just a lot closer. You can have a conversation with anybody, the chemistry is good."
