Blue Smith not looking to rush the process

While many players are looking to speed up their recruitment process that is not the case for L'Christian 'Blue' Smith out of Huber Heights. He is not ready to make any sort of decision on a school and for that matter, is not sure if he will be playing football or basketball at the next level.

OBETZ, Ohio – L'Christian Smith goes by the nickname of Blue and he is going to be a player that everyone will know by the end of his recruitment. The Huber Heights (Ohio) Wayne HS product is sitting on five offers at this point in football and has a couple in basketball and looks like he could be a top player in Ohio for the class of 2018, in either sport. Or both.

The Buckeyes have gotten on board for football and join Penn State, Purdue, Kentucky and Michigan as schools that have made the move to offer. Smith recognizes that the Buckeyes cannot just hand out in-state offers, especially for the class of 2018 and knows that the Buckeyes are very interested.

But Smith also knows he is a young guy and is not all that focused on recruiting at this point and wants to enjoy the high school experience before really getting to wrapped up on what the next level may bring.

"I am only a sophomore and who knows what I could be thinking in two years. I am just taking it slowly and enjoying being a kid because I know after these four years are up, it is a job and serious," Smith said.

Smith is even new to the camp circuit and admits that he does not have a lot of experience going through this process but it is still something that he really enjoys to do because of his competitive nature.

"Just to come out and perform to the best that I can, this is my second camp that I have ever been to, because I didn't go to man last year, just to perform like I know that I can and just come out and compete because I am a competitor. That is what I love to do," Smith said.

Of course Wayne high school is the same school that produced former Buckeye quarterback/wide receiver Braxton Miller and that is a player that Smith really looks up to and patterns aspects of his approach to the game after. When Miller was brought up, Smith could not hold back his smile and gave his first thoughts that came to mind about Miller.

"One of the best players to come through Wayne (high school) honestly," Smith said. "He stayed low key, was not one of the guys who liked getting in the spotlight. He, like me, just got the job done and that is one thing that I like about Braxton, he did not talk. He showed you. That is one thing that I am trying to bring to the table now."

Of course there are Smith's basketball aspirations that need to be considered as well in terms of which sport he will play at the next level. There are a lot of college coaches that are hoping that football wins out but as of now it sounds as if Blue is torn between the two sports and called basketball his first love.

"That is what a lot of people ask me, about which sport I am going to pick in college," Smith said. "I always said that I don't know, it is 50-50 and has always been 50-50, I am not deciding until my senior year."
