While it may have been a surprise for a lot of people that Justin Ahrens and Darius Bazley were going to commit on Saturday to the Ohio State basketball program, it was something that had been planned out by the pair in advance and they needed to make a couple of calls to make sure everything would happen according to plan.

"We met up before we headed to the Schottenstein because we knew that we were going to commit," Ahrens said after he committed to BuckeyeGrove.com "We ended up calling coach (Chris) Jent before we went and we told coach Jent that we were going to commit and we told him to tell coach (Thad) Matta to get out of the office, if he could get him out of the office for a couple of minutes so we could get in there."

The pair got to campus but did not go directly over to Matta's office. They had to pick up a couple of things first.

"Before we went to the Schottenstein we went to a souvenir store and got a hat and shirt and went over and while coach Matta was out of his office, we snuck in there and got behind his desk," Ahrens said. "When we walked in we told him we were going to commit to Ohio State and put our hats and shirts on."

Needless to say, Matta was happy when the news was delivered to him.

"He was shocked. He was so happy," Ahrens said.

The plans of committing together have always been something that the pair have looked into but first each of them needed to pick up Ohio State offers. Once that was accomplished, the rest was really a formality.

"Ever since he got the offer on his visit he has been saying that we should just commit," Ahrens added. "He loved everything about Ohio State. I went on my visit and felt the same things. We are like brothers and we made it happen and committed together."

What was it about Ohio State for Ahrens?

"It just felt like home. I really think that I really fit there and everything about it. The coaches, academics, everything about Ohio State it is like home," Ahrens said.

The pair have been talking to Ohio State's other 2018 commit, Dane Goodwin. The three will now have plenty to talk about.
