Adams impressed by the energy at Ohio State

The state of Washington is producing a bumper crop in the 2020 class and the Buckeyes hosted a pair of prospects from the Evergreen State on Saturday, including Sammamish Eastside Catholic running back Sam Adams II. The 6-foot-2, 205-pound prospect has had a big week on the recruiting trail with new offers and walked away impressed with his first visit to Columbus.

"It was my first time there so I wasn't really sure what to expect," said Adams. "Instantly I could tell that the atmosphere and the energy was totally different than anything that I've experienced."

Adams made the trip along with his father and fellow state of Washington standout Gee Scott. Both prospects received offers on the visit, getting the word from head coach Urban Meyer.

"I was stunned by it," he said. "It's Ohio State and that's big-time football. Just growing up I've always watched their games and heard good things about them. Me having an opportunity to play for them, that's amazing."

The state of Washington hasn't historically been a major recruiting territory for the Buckeyes, but Ohio State has a pair of assistants on the case for Adams early on.

"I've been talking to a couple of coaches on the staff and we just discussed coming out to a game," he said. "It seemed like a good time to come last weekend. They had been talking about all of the good things there at Ohio State and that really intrigued me to go. Coach Alford and coach Hartline are the two that I've been talking to."

In addition to the early relationships that Adams has forged with the Ohio State staff, the running back tradition in Columbus was another thing that convinced him to want to make a visit.

"I know that they produce great running backs like Ezekiel Elliott," he started. "I feel like I could fit very well in that offense and in their scheme."

Adams hopes to be back in the off-season for a more in-depth visit to see what Ohio State has to offer. As he makes his way through the recruiting process, he'll have a great deal of knowledge and experience to lean on in his father, Sam Adams Sr., the long-time NFL defensive tackle.

"As a football player and during this recruiting process, he's been helping me along the way," Adams explained. "He's been through it before so he knows all of the ins and outs and I'm just extremely grateful for that."

UCLA, Oregon, Texas A&M, Florida, Notre Dame, Michigan, and many others are also in the mix early on for Adams.
