2018 Intro: Tremel Walthour

Liberty County High School in Hinesville (Ga.) has become a major producer of college football talent in recent years and that doesn't look to be slowing down anytime soon. One of the next major prospects in line looks to be class of 2018 defensive tackle Tremel Walthour the 6-foot-4, 250-pound prospect worked his way up the varsity depth chart this past fall and is having a strong spring practice session for the Panthers.

"I started like five or six games last year," said Walthour. "I thought that I did a good job. I think I have good strength and I do a good job of firing off the ball. I have some things that I can improve on though. I need to use my hands more and I've been practicing that out here (during spring ball)."

Ohio State has taken advantage of the talent pool at Liberty County, plucking five-star linebacker Raekwon McMillan out of the program in the 2014 class. McMillan had an impressive freshman year for the Buckeyes this past season and even bigger things are expected out of him as a sophomore. While Walthour never shared the field with McMillan in high school, he follows him closely on Saturday's.

"He's a great player," he said. "I just really enjoyed watching him last year at Ohio State."

McMillan, along with 2017 Rivals100 defensive back Richard LeCounte have led virtually every college coaching staff in the nation through the halls of Liberty County. Watching the success of those two is a motivating factor for Walthour who one day hopes to be a heavily recruited prospect.

"I really get a lot of motivation from them," he said. "It makes me work harder seeing that they are going around to camps and doing a good job and getting offers and it just makes me want to do better."

Like many prospects from his area, Walthour has grown up following the Georgia Bulldogs.

"I like the University of Georgia," he explained. "That is the team that I like to watch. I've been to one of their games and that is the only school that I have been to so far."

Once recruiting picks up, however, the athletic lineman is open to all comers.

"I'm interested in anyone," he said. "I like some of the SEC schools and I watched some of Ohio State last year to watch Raekwon but I am just interested in hearing from anyone that is interested in me."
