2012 Year in review: January and February

COLUMBUS, Ohio -- With the 2012 calendar year coming to an end, so does a year that saw Ohio State athletics enjoy a Big Ten regular season championship, a run to the Final Four, a conference division title, and the sixth unbeaten season in a program's history. Buckeye Grove was there to cover it all, and with that in mind, we'll take a look at the best- and some of the worst- that the Buckeyes had to offer over the course of the past 12 months.

Today, we'll take you to last winter and link you back to what happened at Ohio State in the recruiting heavy months of January and February.

January

The Buckeyes' 2011 season officially came to an end with a loss to Florida in the Gator Bowl ... Buckeyes basketball bounced back from its loss to Indiana with a 31-point win against Nebraska ... Reid Fragel officially moved to the Ohio State offensive line.

Noah Spence dominated the Under Armour All-American Game ... Jared Sullinger led the Buckeyes to a 29-point win over Iowa ... Brandon Paul scored 43 points in an Illinois win over Ohio State ... Jacoby Boren, Cardale Jones, Bri'onte Dunn, Tyvis Powell, Michael Thomas, and Joshua Perry all enrolled early for Ohio State's winter quarter.

Taylor Decker decommitted from Notre Dame and joined the Buckeyes' 2012 recruiting class ... The Buckeyes got revenge on Indiana with an 80-63 beat down of the Hoosiers in Columbus ... Offensive lineman Joey O'Connor joined the Buckeyes' 2012 class ... Linebacker David Perkins committed to play for the Buckeyes ... As did fellow linebacker Camren Williams.

Buckeyes basketball picked up another blowout win over the Cornhuskers ... Which was followed by a route of Penn State ... Cameron Burrows became the first member of Ohio State's 2013 recruiting class ... Sullinger picked up a win over high school teammate Trey Burke in the Buckeyes' win over Michigan.

Defensive back Armani Reeves joined Urban Meyer's first recruiting class in Columbus ... Jalin Marshall became the second player to commit to the Buckeyes' 2013 recruiting class.


February

Meyer enjoyed his first signing day as the Buckeyes' head coach ... Jamal Marcus joined Ohio State's 2012 class ... As did Kyle Dodson.

Thad Matta picked up his first win over Wisconsin in Madison ... Former Buckeyes Jim Cordle and Jake Ballard won a Super Bowl title with the New York Giants ... The basketball Buckeyes beat Purdue by three points at home ... But followed it with a home loss to Michigan State ... Which was followed by a road win over Minnesota.

Defensive back Eli Apple joined the Buckeyes' 2013 class ... OSU hoops' up and down February continued with a road loss at Michigan ... The Buckeyes bounced back with a win over Illinois ... William Buford's senior day did not go as planned thanks to an Ohio State loss to Wisconsin.

Offensive lineman Evan Lisle committed to play for the Buckeyes in 2013 ... A Sullinger buzzer beater at Northwestern kept the Buckeyes in the Big Ten title hunt.
