All-Big East Team: Land of the big men

The Big East was dominated by its big men this season.

There's not another league in the country that goes as deep in the front court as the Big East. And we're talking about legitimate back-to-the-basket post players, not glorified small forwards.

The Big East had 15 players who averaged seven or more rebounds per game. The SEC and Big 12 each had eight. The Big Ten had four.

You want 7-footers? How about Georgetown's 7-2 Roy Hibbert and Pittsburgh's 7-foot Aaron Gray?

You want guys who dominate on the boards? How about Connecticut's Jeff Adrien, Providence's Herbert Hill and USF's Kentrell Gransberry?

You want a shot blocker? How about 7-3 Connecticut freshman Hasheem Thabeet?

Truth be told, we can't even put all of the best frontcourt players in the league on our Big East all-conference teams. We've got only two teams of five because we want the Rivals.com all-conference teams to mean something. No watering down the mix here. None of that "we can't decide on only five, so let's put 11 guys on the first team" stuff.

That and we try to make our teams ones you actually could put on the floor, not five centers on the first team. Although, given the guard play in the Big East this year, we'd have considered it if one of the aforementioned big men had the requisite ball-handling skills.

Here are the Rivals.com All-Big East teams for 2006-07:
