Bryant goes to the Rams in the 7th round

Many Buckeyes fans were holding out hope that former Ohio State defensive back Christian Bryant would get a medical redshirt and one more chance to play for the Buckeyes. The NCAA did not grant a medical exemption however but Bryant's football career is not over now that he has been selected in the NFL Draft by the St. Louis Rams with the No. 241 pick overall in the 7th and final round of the draft.

Bryant's Ohio State career came to a sudden end at Ohio Stadium in the final moments of the Buckeyes' win over Wisconsin when a fluke play resulted in a broken ankle for Bryant and a disappointing end of the year for one of Ohio State's top defenders.

The Ohio State defender attempted to return for the bowl game but never was cleared and was still somewhat limited during Ohio State's Pro Day but told the media assembled that he was close at that point and that was good enough for the Rams who selected him with one of the final picks of the draft.

Bryant was a former Cleveland (Ohio) Glenville Tarblooder and was a 4-star recruit by Rivals.com. Bryant held offers from most of the major programs in the Midwest and selected the Buckeyes late in the process, as is normal for most players out of Glenville high school.

During his Ohio State career, Bryant played in 36 games, starting in 27 of them. Bryant racked up 171 career tackles with two picks, 23 pass breakups, three forced fumbles and had a fumble recovery for good measure. Before Bryant's senior season was cut short he was named to the watch lists for both the Thorpe and Nagurski awards.

The Buckeyes have now had six players drafted in the 2014 draft and Bryant adds his name to the list of Ohio State defensive backs to get drafted by NFL teams. Bryant is the second member of the Ohio State secondary to get drafted in 2014 and joins Bradley Roby who went in the first round to the Denver Broncos.
