Buckeyes land first commitment in 2016

Ohio State is officially on the board in the 2016 recruiting cycle as the Buckeyes have landed a pledge from Hubbard (Ohio) athlete George Hill. The 6-foot, 185-pound prospect made a return visit to Ohio State on Saturday and was able to see everything that he needed to to know that he was ready to end the recruiting process.

"I just committed (to Ohio State)," Hill informed BuckeyeGrove.com via text message.

Hill chose Ohio State over offers from Cincinnati, Indiana, Kentucky, Michigan State and West Virginia and is being recruited as an athlete by the Buckeyes. Hill's 10.8 100-meter speed could be used at either running back or wide receiver when he eventually makes it to Columbus. His comfort both with the school and the Ohio State system was a major selling point.

"It feels like home," Hill said. "They have a program that no other college has as far as life after football. Ohio State has a good offense and can get me to the outside and get me the ball in my hands in space."

Hill's lead recruiter was new co-defensive coordinator Chris Ash who has taken over some of the recruiting responsibilities in Northeast Ohio. Ash was excited to get the news from Hill on his visit today.

"He was really proud of me and excited," Hill said. "The coaches were all just happy that I became a Buckeye."

Ohio State's work isn't finished just yet at Hubbard as they have made class of 2015 running back Larry Scott a priority. Hill will now turn his attention to his teammate.

"I'm going to try and recruit him to Ohio State," Hill said. "With him it's really between Michigan State and Ohio State."

As a sophomore, Hill rushed for 1,175 yards on just 100 carries, averaging nearly 12 yards per rush for a Hubbard team that went all the way to the Regional finals. All of this production came despite splitting time with Rivals100 running back Larry Scott who also went for well over 1,000 yards. Hill also brought big play ability to the return game and is capable of spreading out wide at receiver.

We will have more including Hill's reaction to being a Buckeye and the impact of this decision on the class of 2016 for Urban Meyer's Buckeyes.
