COLUMBUS, Ohio -- Everett Withers is set to be next head coach at James Madison University, according to FootballScoop.com.

Withers, who has served as Ohio State's co-defensive coordinator and safeties coach for two years under Urban Meyer, would be the first Buckeye assistant to leave Meyer's staff.

Officials at James Madison, which is located in Harrisonburg, Va., did not immediately respond to BuckeyeGrove.com's request for comment. An Ohio State athletics spokesman could not confirm the hire.

Before coming to Columbus, Withers served as North Carolina's interim head coach in 2011 and was the Tar Heels' defensive coordinator and secondary coach from 2008-10. Prior to his time in Chapel Hill, N.C., Withers worked in similar roles with NFL teams such as the Tennnessee Titans and New Orleans Saints.

Withers earned $585,000 a year at Ohio State while former Dukes coach Mickey Matthews made $222,000. Withers, a native of Charlotte, N.C., is part of an Ohio State (12-1) team that will play Clemson in the Orange Bowl on Jan. 3 in Miami, Fla.
