Buckeye targets to take stage in Pittsburgh

Follow Noon | Givler | Axelrod |

The Rivals Camp Series presented by Under Armour will make a stop in the Keystone State on Sunday as the series hits Pittsburgh (Pa.) and Montour High School. While the camp won't take place within the state of Ohio, there will be a major Ohio and Ohio State flavor with two Buckeye commits and several other major targets in the 2014 and 2015 classes set to compete. Below, we provide a preview of what Ohio State fans need to watch for on Sunday.

Can Campbell make a big move?

Ohio State commit Parris Campbell had just started to see his recruiting stock take off when he committed to the Buckeyes back in February. The 6-foot-1, 185-pound athlete from Akron (Ohio) St. Vincent-St. Mary has improved greatly over the last six months as he continues to get bigger, faster, and stronger. Just 15 years old, Campbell is 18 months younger than most prospects in his class and because of that, is the type of prospect that has a lot of upward mobility as he catches up physically to his classmates.

The camp setting is the perfect opportunity for Campbell to show off his big-time track speed and the versatile athlete will likely take most of his reps at wide receiver on Sunday. Simply put, there is no prospect in the state of Ohio for the 2014 class that can help his stock more than Campbell this weekend.

Glenville Crew ready to compete

After a year or two of not seeing the Cleveland (Ohio) Glenville prospects out on the camp circuit as much as in previous years, the Glenville swagger looks to be back as the Tarblooders will bring their best out on Sunday. Among the group that is expected to arrive in Pittsburgh is Rivals100 athlete Marshon Lattimore, Rivals250 safety Erick Smith and Ohio State offensive line commit Marcelys Jones.

Also expected is the next generation of Glenville stars, including class of 2015 linebackers Matthew Draper and Justice Hart. Both prospects have already been turning heads on the camp circuit this off-season and will help to comprise the most talented position group at this camp.

Ohio's elite in 2015

You simply will not find a better collection of Ohio's top class of 2015 prospects in one setting than on Sunday at Montour High School. From Cleveland Benedictine linebacker Jerome Baker to Austintown-Fitch running back Darrin Hall to Canton McKinley athlete Eric Glover-Williams and the Lakewood St. Edward trio of athlete Shaun Crawford, wide receiver/defensive back David Dowell, and running back Andrew Dowell, the best the Buckeye State has to offer in the 2015 recruiting class will be on hand Sunday.

All of the above prospects have already impressed both on the playing field and in camp and combine settings and Sunday's event could go a long way towards starting the process of establishing the pecking order in what is looking to be a loaded year for Ohio talent.

Linebackers everywhere

In addition to the outstanding crop of class of 2015 linebackers mentioned above, the class of 2014 will be equally represented at the position. Ohio State targets Dante Booker, Chase Winovich, and Jamal Davis will all compete on Sunday as will Michigan commit and Rivals100 product Michael Ferns.

With a position group loaded with BCS level prospects, the drills and one-on-one's at the linebacker spot could end up being the talk of the camp when it's all said and done.

Other odds and ends

The top Ohio prospects that are expected to attend have been well documented above but there are a handful of Pennsylvania products that the Buckeyes are targeting that should be in attendance on Sunday. Offensive lineman Alex Bookser recently made an unofficial visit to Ohio State and is expected to workout.

In the secondary, Aliquippa (Pa.) product Dravon Henry and Monroeville (Pa.) Gateway's Montae Nicholson are both ready to compete and back-up their lofty four-star rankings.
