Filling out the coaching staff

Untitled Document There are a lot of names being floated around right now as who will fill out Urban Meyer's staff at Ohio State. This list is dedicated to those who have been named or confirmed beyond a shadow of a doubt. This list will be updated as quickly as the names start to come in.

Urban Meyer
It is well documented the success that Meyer has had at every stop in his career. His first taste of coaching as at Cincinnati St. Xavier high school but that was a one year stop before moving on to Ohio State for two years. Meyer had his first shot as a head coach in 2011 at Bowling Green where he led the Falcons to a 17-6 record in his two years plus a MAC Coach of the year award. Then Meyer took his talents west to Utah and for his two years there went 22-2 and an undefeated season (capped with a BCS win over Pitt). And most notably Meyer was at the helm of the Florida Gators from 2005-2010 where he led the team to two BCS Championships including a 41-14 win over the No. 1 ranked Ohio State Buckeyes. Career Record: 104-23, Bowls: 7-1

Tom Herman- Offensive Coordinator/QB Coach
Herman has had a strong history in his past stops and most recently served as the QB coach and Offensive Coordinator at Iowa State. While the numbers were not overly prolific the young coach has had stops at Rice, Texas State and Sam Houston State on his way to Columbus. Herman will remain with the Cyclones through the Cyclones' bowl game on December 30th.
Everett Withers - Co-Defensive Coordinator/Asst. Head Coach (Safeties)
Withers comes off a recent stint when the University of North Carolina where he served as interim head coach for the 2011 season after being elevated from the Defensive Coordinator/Secondary coaching position. The North Carolina native has had a mixture of both NCAA and NFL experience and spent two different stints in the league with the Titans and Saints. The 48-year-old coach helped engineer some of the dominating Tar Heel defenses of the past couple of seasons and teams that have played under him have always ranked highly in interceptions.
Luke Fickell - Defensive Coordinator (Linebackers)
Fickell served as the Ohio State head coach during the 2011 season after being an assistant coach from the 2002 season on. The Columbus native served as Ohio State's Special Team's coach, Linebacker's coach and Co-Defensive Coordinator under Jim Tressel. His role has yet to be determined by Meyer but it would be safe to say that he will be a vital part of the coaching staff especially during the transition between the two staffs.
Stan Drayton - Running Backs Coach
Drayton came home to Ohio last season to serve as the wide receivers coach but his background is stronger in the development of running backs. He has coached throughout the SEC and served under Meyer with the Gators. Drayton is known as a top recruiter and has many ties in the Southeast and was named one of the nation's top-25 recruiters by Rivals.com.
Zach Smith - Wide Receivers Coach
Smith is known for being the grandson of former Ohio State Head Football Coach Earle Bruce but the young coach has already started putting together an impressive resume. Smith served as an offensive and special teams graduate assistant under Meyer with the Gators. After leaving Gainesville (Fla.) Smith was named the Wide Receivers and Special Teams coach at Marshall. His tenure there lasted for one season before moving on to Temple to take over the same duties with the Owls.
Tim Hinton - Tight Ends Coach
Hinton brings many strong ties to the Buckeye state to Ohio State. The 51-year-old coach was a GA at Ohio State in 1985-86 under Earle Bruce and then went on to several high school and college jobs within the borders of Ohio. Hinton has plenty of experience working with running backs with stops at Cincinnati and at Notre Dame but has the flexibility to work with players across the offensive side of the ball. His offensive philosophies should meld well with Meyer and Herman's visions for the new look Ohio State offense moving forward. Hinton earned his master's degree from Ohio State in 1987.
Ed Warinner - Offensive Line Coach
Warinner has been coaching for close to 30 years and most recently served as the Offensive Line/Running Game Coordinator at Notre Dame. Warinner is a Strasburg (Ohio) native and played his college football at Mt. Union and earned his master's degree from the University of Akron. Warinner filled the role as the Offensive Coordinator at Kansas and had several players go on to set school records under his guidance on the offensive side of the ball. Was named as one of the top-20 assistant coaches primed to take a head coaching job in 2011 by Rivals.com and was a finalist for the AFCA National Asst. Coach of the year in 2009.
Mike Vrabel - Defensive Line Coach
Vrabel hung up the pads before the 2011 season and joined the Ohio State staff to fill the vacant linebacker coach position when Luke Fickell was elevated to the head coaching position. He was named the Big Ten Defensive Lineman of the Year for two seasons (1995-96) before being drafted in the 3rd round the NFL. It is premature to really know what Vrabel, the coach, is going to be about but he is already becoming a player's coach.
Taver Johnson - Cornerbacks Coach
Johnson was retained by Meyer after joining the Ohio State coaching staff in 2007. Johnson's voice was one of the loudest ones during Ohio State practices and was always well-liked by his players. Before getting to Ohio State, Johnson was the assistant head coach and defensive coordinator at Miami (Ohio) and also served for one season as the special teams coach with the Cleveland Browns.
Other Key Personnel
Brian Voltolini - Director of Football Operations
Mark Pantoni - Director of Player Personnel
Mickey Marotti - Asst. AD for Football Sports Performance
