Kalis decommits from Ohio State

The Ohio State recruiting effort took a huge hit on Tuesday night when Lakewood (Ohio) St. Ed's offensive lineman Kyle Kalis decommitted from the Buckeyes according to multiple sources close to the program.

The 6-foot-5, 302 pound tackle came close to decommitting upon learning the news that Jim Tressel resigned as the head coach of Ohio State but interim head coach Luke Fickell was able to talk him out of it, but now it appears that it was only temporarily.

Kalis is ranked as the No. 1 player in the state of Ohio by BuckeyeGrove.com and is rated as a four star by Rivals.com.

The big lineman is scheduled to take a trip to Ann Arbor (Mich.) this weekend to check out the Wolverines but is also looking at other schools as well.

The loss takes the Buckeyes down the eight commits for the class of 2012 and the verbal pledge of Bri'onte Dunn remains very much up in the air as well after the fallout from the NCAA investigation of the Buckeyes. Many recruits are still taking a wait-and-see approach to see what kind of penalties could be handed down against Ohio State in the fall.

We will continue to follow this breaking news as new details unfold in the coming hours.
