VIDEO: Russell Byrd footage from Run-N-Slam

FT. WAYNE - Things fell apart for Spiece Indy Heat on their home court during the Bill Hensley Memorial Run-N-Slam All-Star Classic. But even on a weekend in which the Heat went 1-4 and lost in the first round of the Silver Bracket, the amount of individual talent on the team was evident.

The big three for the Indy Heat struggled at times. But in the midst of difficult weekend,DeShaun Thomas, Marquis Teague, and 2010 Michigan State commitment Russell Byrd all showed why they are among the top players at their positions in the 2010 and 2011 classes respectively.

Byrd played hard from start to finish at the Run-N-Slam and he ran hard to get himself open on the perimeter in each of Indy Heat's games despite getting a limited number of touches. When he did get the ball, Byrd showed good shot selection.

When Byrd was open on the perimeter, he showed the sweet stroke that made him one of the fastest rising players on grassroots basketball circuit last summer. But Byrd's prowess as a shooter was not the only aspect of future Spartan's game on display last weekend.

The 2010 standout also displayed an improved handle in the open court. And at 6-foot-7, Byrd even managed to take some smaller guards off the dribble. Byrd also demonstrated the ability to post up smaller guards and score on the block.
