MSU beats Michigan, UK for Indiana shooter

Tom Izzo received the second verbal commitment for the Class of 2010 when Ft. Wayne (Ind.) Blackhawk Christian star Russell Byrd informed the Spartan head coach of his intent to play basketball at Michigan State.

Byrd chose Michigan State from a group of three finalists. The Spartans beat out Kentucky and Michigan for the commitment of the 6-foot-7, 190-pound sharpshooter.

Byrd's connection with Izzo was one of the primary reasons for his decision to commit to Michigan State. The junior also felt like his skill set was an excellent match to the Spartans' offense.
