One team in front

While many college football fan bases currently have 100 percent of their recruiting attention focused on the class of 2008, supporters of certain programs like the Texas Longhorns have already cast one eye towards the 2009 class.

The reason? The Longhorns have already secured 19 verbal commitments, and the Texas staff has only three outstanding offers to prospects in the 2008 class. On the other hand, the 2009 group, the guys that are about to start their junior seasons, hold plenty of mystery as it's anyone's guess on which players the Texas coaches might eventually pursue.

One player that is likely to land near the top of the Horns' recruiting radar for next year's class is Madisonville's Chris Whaley. The blue-chip prospect is considered to be one of the state's top overall players for the 2009 class, and there are some that feel he's the state's top running back despite still having two years of high school eligibility remaining.
