Manuel makes the call

Virginia Beach (Va.) Bayside quarterback E.J. Manuel announced his decision before friends, family and teammates on Wednesday evening at his high school. The nation's No. 2 quarterback was nice enough to give Rivals.com the scoop the night before. Here's why he picked Florida State.

"It really was an easy choice for me," said the 6-foot-4, 201-pounder of his decision to commit to Florida State. "I've always heard that you'll know what school you want to attend by getting a feeling when you're on your visit. That's exactly what happened at Florida State. I just felt so comfortable there, my parents loved it and it reminded me a lot of Virginia Beach.

"The campus was really nice, I liked the coaches and felt very good about them and I think FSU is a place that will allow me to have a complete college experience."

Manuel hit it off with a former five-star recruit for the 'Noles while on his visit.

"I spent some time with Myron Rolle and that really helped," Manuel said. "I think Myron and I are a lot alike. We both feel that academics are important and we want to balance it with athletics. I think Myron is the perfect example of a student athlete and he was great to talk to."

Manuel feels that the quarterback situation is a good one for him as well.

"That was one of the factors also," he said. "I wanted to find a place where I can come in and compete early and I think the quarterback situation at FSU is a good one. My relationship with coach Fisher was also very important. He's a great offensive coach and a lot of the things he wants to do at Florida State fit what I think are my strengths."

The big quarterback was recruited by numerous current FSU commitments.

"Guys like Nigel Bradham, Nigel Carr, Vincent Williams and others kept in touch with me," he said. "They want to build something special at FSU and so do I. I got to know them pretty well talking to them and that comfort level helped."

Manuel is excited that the decision has been made.

"It's like a weight off of me," he said. "I liked all of the schools I visited, but Florida State was just the right fit. It's hard to describe but I knew it right away. Now I can focus on my senior season and look forward to getting better."
