COLUMBUS, Ohio -- Can a trio of freshmen help redeem Ohio State from its defensive woes?

It's a question that figures to be answered against Clemson and a prolific offense that might be the best outfit the seventh-ranked Buckeyes have seen all season.

Naturally, it might seem odd to start a few youngsters on a defense that's stumbled and staggered lately, surrendering 1,041 yards and in back-to-back games against Michigan State and Michigan.

Among those enlisted to try and slow down Clemson, which averages 40 points and 503 total yards a game, are Joey Bosa, Tyvis Powell and Vonn Bell are expected to start for the Buckeyes in the Orange Bowl Friday.

It might appear to be a gamble. But with three weeks between Ohio State's 34-24 loss to the Spartans in the Big Ten championship game on Dec. 7 and its bout against the Tigers, it could be worth the risk.
