Bates born to tackle family tradition

The game of football is special for the Bates family. It's just different.

Not every family have a father that spent 15 years in the NFL for the Dallas Cowboys, America's team.

Rarely does a family have brothers play college football at the same time like the Bates have, with Graham playing at Arkansas State from 2008 to 2011 and Hunter suiting up for Northwestern University from 2008 to 2012.

And just a year from now another Bates, Dillon Bates, will add to the line of collegiate football players from the family.

"Football's been our life ever since we've been married and I would not change a thing looking back on it. God's blessed us in so many ways," Bill said this past weekend after just watching Dillon participate in the Rival Five-Star Challenge presented by Under Armour. "We have a great family and for me to be able to play as long as I played and to coach, we're thankful. I think the coaching side of it, Dillon probably remembers more of that. I think he has to Google me to see me play."

While Dillon may have to find his father's playing days on the Internet, there are plenty of memories that come from deep in the heart of Texas that has led to who Dillon is today.
