MSU commits: Holmes ready to rumble

This is the first in a SpartanMag.com series profiling the latest on Michigan State's 2013 verbal commitments, with insight from the commitment's high school coaches:

Nate Williams can't wait to see Gerald Holmes play at the college level.

Williams enjoyed watching Holmes as a high school standout as coach at Flint Carman-Ainsworth. This past season, Holmes had 14 touchdowns and gained 1,023 yards while averaging 10 yards per carry.

Michigan State coaches watched him carefully this fall as a Spartan commitment, and they liked what they saw.

"They like his size," Williams said of Michigan State coaches, adding that the loss of Le'Veon Bell to the NFL might open an opportunity for Holmes.

MSU coaches cannot comment on members of the 2013 recruiting class until signing day on Feb. 6.

"They're expecting big things from him," Williams said of the Michigan State coaches.
