Welsh enjoys Iowa visit

Ohio offensive lineman Sean Welsh has heard a lot about Iowa since the Hawkeyes offered him a scholarship in early May, but today was his first chance to see Iowa City up close. We caught up with the 6-foot-3, 275-pound Welsh to talk about the visit, if he might be getting close to making a decision, and much more.

Q: What all did you get to do out at Iowa today?

WELSH: Well, I pretty much got a full tour of campus and all of the facilities including the news ones they're building. I got to meet most of the coaching staff and I got to talk to a player panel with some of the current players there. It was a good day. I got to see a lot of things that I wouldn't get to see or learn about without visiting, so it was really good.

Q: Can you talk about the player panel, just who was on it and what that discussion was like?

WELSH: I don't remember all of their names, but there was a Jordan (Walsh) from Chicago and a Brandon (Scherff) from Iowa. They were all offensive linemen. I just asked them kind of general questions about the player life, what it's like to play at Iowa, what they do in their free time, and what kind of drew them to Iowa.

Q: Was that something that was pretty helpful for you?

WELSH: Yeah, absolutely. I've been on a lot of visits and they haven't done that at any other school. A lot of coaches say you will get to talk to the players while you are there, but you never actually get to very much so to have an actual player panel was great because it gave me a good chance to do that today. It was pretty cool.

Along with Iowa, Welsh currently holds scholarship offers from Miami, West Virginia, Cincinnati, Indiana, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisville, Air Force, Ball State, Bowling Green, Ohio, Kent State, Toledo, Western Kentucky, and Miami of Ohio, among others.
