2013 LB wants to play early

Mike McCray won't be enrolling at a university for another year and a half but he's already looking ahead. The junior Ohio linebacker is hoping he can find a school that gives him an opportunity to get on the field early.

That's one of the biggest factors that McCray will consider when he's making his decision. It's not the only thing, but it's clearly important.

"I want to go somewhere I can compete and somewhere I can play," McCray told EagleAction.com this week. "I want to find a school that's strong academically.

"I want to find a place that feels like home but location doesn't really matter to me."

While location might not be a decisive factor in McCray's decision it has dictated his visits thus far. That's to be expected.

The 6-foot-4, 218-pound linebacker from Trotwood (Ohio) Trotwood-Madison visited Michigan State, Ohio State, Purdue and Tennessee this year. Interestingly, McCray's favorite trip was to the one school outside of Big Ten country that he checked out.

"Out of the four I probably liked Tennessee the most and then Michigan State," he noted.

"I just liked the atmosphere and the fans at Tennessee. The stadium and everything else, too.

"I went to the Wisconsin game at Michigan State and it was a great game. It was big for them, beating a rival team."

McCray said he's not sure what schools he will visit in the offseason. Will he get to BC at some point?

"I'm probably going to look into them," he explained. "I really haven't talked to them that much and honestly I don't know much about them yet. They have offered, though, so I'll look at them."

McCray said most schools are recruiting him as a Will linebacker.

Trotwood Madison posted a perfect 15-0 record and won the state championship. McCray tallied more than 90 tackles with five interceptions on defense. Offensively he hauled in 26 receptions, 10 of which went for touchdowns.
