For college programs looking for tight ends, Ohio has been a regular stop in recent years as the state has produced some outstanding prospects at the position. The next in line is Columbus (Ohio) Bishop Hartley product Jacob Matuska. The 6-foot-5, 240-pound prospect was a two-way starter last season on the Hawks' state championship team and is one of the most heavily recruited rising juniors in Ohio at the moment.

"I've got offers from Toledo and Cincinnati," Matuska explained. "It feels really good but I'm still looking for a few more. I'm young so I've still got a few years to go. The Toledo one was kind of special because it was my first one, especially going into my junior year. It just sort of reinforces to me what the college coaches that have seen me think I can do and it just pushes me harder."

Matuska may have anticipated the Toledo offer coming, but getting his first BCS level offer from Cincinnati came as a bit of a surprise.

"I wasn't really expecting that one as much," he said. "The when I went to their camp, their coach had me run a couple more reps and that kind of made it a little obvious (that they were interested)."

In addition to the offers from Cincinnati and Toledo, Matuska is hearing from a few other outstanding programs.

"Notre Dame, I went to their camp this summer and they seem to like me a lot," he said. "Ohio State, they've been in contact and UCLA, too."

On Notre Dame - "Notre Dame is my dream school. I like the catholic feel and the family type of environment. I like the campus a lot, too. When I went up there I walked around a bit and the campus just looked really good. The people around there all seem close, they all walk to class together and everything, it's just a nice environment."

On Ohio State - "I like Ohio State. Everything that's going on, it's not really that big of a big deal to me. I still like them and everything. I liked them before Notre Dame, they were my school."

On UCLA - "They just kind of gave me a pamphlet to fill out because they couldn't really talk to me because I was younger."

Coming off a strong sophomore season which included a state championship victory, it will be hard to top that as a junior but Matuska is ready and determined to continue that type of success this fall.

"Being a junior now and being an upperclassman, it makes me strive to be a leader," he said. "With me playing last year and being around the kids that played last year, they kind of showed me what needed to be done to be a state championship caliber team."

Matuska is the top ranked tight end in the BuckeyeGrove.com class of 2013 Ohio rankings.
