Bell thinking about Iowa

Last week Ka'Darryl Bell watched as his best friend made his college decision. His best friend is Maurice Fleming and his college destination will be the University of Iowa. As luck would have it, Bell has a basketball scholarship offer from Iowa and as you might expect, it's a school he is thinking long and hard about right now.

"Reese (Fleming) was actually at my house when he committed to Iowa," Bell said Sunday evening. "It was pretty neat to see him make his commitment and share that experience with him."

Bell and Fleming have been best friends since grade school. The two first met while playing football in 2nd grade and Fleming actually got Bell playing basketball the following year. Now the duo have the opportunity to play their chosen sports at the college level, possibly at the same school.

How much of an impact does having his best friend pledged to the Hawkeyes have on the talented point guard from the Chicago area?

"It has a big impact," he said. "He is my best friend and he wants me to come to Iowa with him. It makes me want to commit, but I am going to wait it out a little bit and see what happens in July."

Bell says that his time frame hasn't changed at this point and he would like to make a verbal commitment in either late July or early August. In addition to Iowa, Bell currently holds scholarship offers from Drake and Ohio. He is receiving interest from Boston College, Florida State, Butler, and Wichita State.

He says that college coaches have been telling him they want to see him during the July evaluation period to see how his point guard skills have developed.

"I need to show coaches in July that I know how to run a team and keep my teammates involved in the game. Most of them know that I can score and that I am athletic, but they need to see me really run a team."
