Eastmoor continues to turn prospects

The 2011 class saw Eastmoor Academy in Columbus send its top player to Ohio State in safety Ron Tanner. The Buckeyes will be keeping a close eye on another Eastmoor product in 2013 prospect Devon Edwards. The 6-foot-5, 235-pound tight end hauled in eight touchdown receptions as a sophomore and was on campus for several of Ohio State's games this past fall.

"My coaches took me and a couple of other players to a lot of the Ohio State games this past season," said Edwards. "It was awesome. We were like right behind the bench and everything so you got to see everybody. It was a nice atmosphere."

With Edwards being at most of the home games, many would think that one of the marquee Big Ten opponents may have been his best experience in Columbus but it was actually the Buckeyes' 36-point win over Ohio University in September.

"Honestly the Ohio game (stood out the most)," Edwards explained. "(Ohio State) doesn't take any opponent lightly. The way they just took that opponent and just went out and said 'we're gonna do work'."

As a childhood friend and teammate of current Ohio State safety Ron Tanner, Edwards has absorbed a lot of knowledge from Tanner over the years and has looked at him as a mentor.

"He gave me a lot of advice," Edwards said. "I've known him since I was little so it's just sort of looking up to him like a big brother. He's always just pushing me and basically he expects a lot out of me. You don't want to let your brother down so you just put in work and he tells me to just work hard for what you want."

The recruiting process is really just starting to begin for Edwards but already a couple of other BCS programs have expressed interest.

"Michigan and Boston College (have shown interest)," Edwards explained. "I get a lot of mail from Boston College and Michigan has talked to my coach."

Though he lives in Columbus, it's another Big Ten school that Edwards grew up cheering for.

"I would say Michigan (is a favorite school)," he said. "I'm from Michigan so I've always kind of liked Michigan."

This summer will be a big one for Edwards as he hopes to put himself on the radar of even more Division I programs and the big tight end will be very active on the camp circuit.

"I think I'm going to the Michigan State and Iowa one-day camps so far," he said. "I want to go to a couple more one-day camps so I have to look and find out what other ones are out there."
