Spartans visit Florida WR
The Sunshine State is always loaded with talented prospects that are uncommitted late in the recruiting process. A player that the Michigan State staff is taking a close look at is wide receiver Juwan Caesar of Coral Park High School. SpartanMag.com was able to catch up with the 6-foot-4, 210-pound prospect and get the latest.
Caesar has seen his stock improve dramatically the past few months after a strong senior season. The 3-star recruit now holds scholarship offers from Michigan State, Illinois, Minnesota, West Virginia and South Florida among others.
Caesar too his first official recruiting trip back in December to the University of Illinois and came away impressed. He plans on having a busy month of January starting next weekend.
"I am still debating on a couple of visits," Caesar stated. "On the 14th I might visit South Florida or Minnesota, on the 21st it will either be Michigan State or West Virginia and the 28th will be Central Florida."
Michigan State has currently only signed 1 wide receiver for the class of 2011 and that is Andre Sims Jr. of Georgia. The 5-foot-9, 180-pound Sims is more of a slot wide receiver while Caesar is a big wide-out in the mold of former Spartans Devin Thomas or Muhsin Muhammad.
SpartanMag.com asked Caesar how his senior season went and what it is that coaches like about him/
"I had 50 catches for 760-yards and 8 touchdowns, he stated. Coaches like that I catch everything away from my body. I am a very physical player and I can break tackles. I have good body control in the air and I can catch the ball in traffic."
The Spartans will graduate all 3 starting wide receivers after the 2011 season (Cunningham, Martin and Nichol), whoever is signed 4 the class of 2011 will have a chance to be a 3 or even 4-year starter depending on whether or not the red-shirt. Of those players, Caesar skill set might be most similar to that of B.J. Cunningham.
Spartanmag.com asked Caesar about the contact he has had with Michigan State.
"Coach (Mark) Staten is my recruiting coach that I speak with the most, but the defensive backs coach is supposed to come by my school tomorrow," Caesar stated.
With signing day fast approaching the Spartan staff is using a team approach to make sure they stay in contact with the players they want to have on campus in the coming weeks. A positive aspect about Caesar's recruitment is he currently has a 3.2 GPA and is listed as having scored a 1080 on the SAT.
Spartanmag.com will be sure to keep in contact with Caesar in the coming days. If he does confirm an official visit to Michigan State we will be sure to report that news and the details following his time in East Lansing.
