Tech in the picture for 2011 OL
Coldspring (Texas) offensive tackle Matt Wilson has been a Houston commit since late July, but his appearance at a Tech bowl practice this week suggests that the Red Raiders have inserted themselves in the conversation for his services.
"Yeah, I went to Dallas to go watch them practice," Wilson said. "They wanted me to get a feel for how their practices are run and they wanted to give me a chance to meet the coaches, stuff like that. It was fun to see kind of how they ran things."
Texas Tech only entered the picture a few weeks ago, and the charge is being lead by offensive line coach Matt Moore.
"Coach Matt Moore is recruiting me and I'd say they first started showing me some interest around week two of the playoffs," he said. "I haven't gotten anything in the mail yet as far as an offer, but I think they might be pretty close."
Wilson indicated that he has an official visit scheduled with the Red Raiders for the weekend of January 14th. The 6-foot-7, 270-pounder says he also has one scheduled with Houston in January, and could possibly make an official visit to Mississippi State.
One things is apparent, the emergence of Texas Tech as a contender for the 2011 prospect has somewhat changed Wilson's situation.
"I'm pretty open. I'm not going to leave any stone unturned, so I'd say that I'm open to listening to what they've got to say," he said. "They've got Coach Tuberville now, who I've talked to a little bit. He's building a program up so they're kind of doing some things a different way than they used to. I'm looking forward to seeing how things work out when I take my visit. I'm definitely listening to what they have to say."
Wilson committed to Houston in July, and aside from Tech, he's been shown interest by Baylor, New Mexico, TCU, and Vanderbilt.
