Westerman now wide open
The number one rated prospect in Arizona is 6-foot-5, 288 pounder Christian Westerman. The 4* recruit is highly coveted and until recently was thought to be a solid commit to the Texas Longhorns. That however, appears to have changed when Texas offensive line coach Mac McWhorter decided to retire this year. Duck Sports Authority spoke with Westerman's father recently to find out if the Ducks truly are being considered.
"That is definitely a possibility as far as our sights set on getting up to Oregon for a visit," said Westerman's father. I have talked to coach (Steve) Greatwood a couple of times. We talked about getting together in January. Most likely after the Under Armor All-American game. I think that's in the works and something we'd like to do."
Westerman is looking at several schools and was just returning from a visit to Auburn. Oregon, USC and Texas are also still being considered. Westerman's father said that even though the Longhorns had a rough season it was the coaching change that made his son re-think his decision.
"It was the relationship with the coach and not knowing who the coach is going to be. Especially the O line coach, who in my estimation, is the key relationship. That opened a lot of question marks. Not having that answered opened things back up."
