Tech still pursuing Green

Clairton ( Penn.) defensive end Desimon Green is still currently fighting for a state championship in the 2010 playoffs, but it sounds like things are set to heat up on the recruiting front once his senior season is done.

"I'm still committed to Pitt right now, but me and Texas Tech have been keeping in touch a whole lot," Green said. "I haven't scheduled any officials yet, but I've talked with Tech about it, so it could happen. I'm just going to think some things through when my season is done, and we'll see what happens from there. I've tried to be up front with the coaches at Pitt and Texas Tech. I think they both know where I stand right now."

It's easy to understand why Green would choose to focus on the season at hand. The Bears are a perfect 13-0 this year, and they have a date in the PIAA Class A quarterfinal on Friday. Throughout his senior season, however, Green has been building a close relationship with Texas Tech assistant coach Robert Prunty.

"That's my man. He's like a brother to me at this point. We talk about life and what's going on around me. We talk about football too, but he's more interested in school and my family life," he said. "It's just cool to be around a guy who has so much to say about life in general, and I feel like he's a guy that has probably been helpful to a lot of college athletes before. He's a real cool dude and we get along real well."

The 6-foot-5, 230-pounder will more than likely be visited in-home by Red Raider coaches in the next few weeks, but again, nothing will be decided until after Green's season has been completed. Indications are that a final decision could come soon thereafter.

"I'm going to deal with all of that stuff, as far as official or in-home visits, after the season. I've talked about it with Coach Prunty and Texas Tech, but I don't have anything scheduled right now."

"I'll probably want to have everything done by the middle of December, or the end of the month at the latest. I've been building a relationship with these two programs for a while so I feel like I'll know pretty soon which I'll ultimately be comfortable with. I'm just waiting for our season to end and then I'll be trying to bring this recruitment stuff to a final close as well."

Green has been committed to Pitt since August, and he also holds offers from Cincinnati, Illinois, Louisville, Michigan, Michigan State, Purdue, Syracuse, Texas Tech, and West Virginia.
