Hokies extend new 2011 offer

Virginia Tech is the latest team to pull the trigger on yet another 2011 prospect. Who's the rising recruit to land a scholarship from the Hokies?

"I got an offer from Virginia Tech on Friday," Lynchburg (Va.) Liberty Christian Academy athlete Demetri Knowles said. "I talked to Coach Stinespring and he asked if I was hearing the rumors that he had an offer. He then told me I would be getting an offer from them.

"He told me they have like two receivers leaving and it was good timing for them to give an offer."

Knowles is thrilled by the offer and knows more about the Hokies since he took a visit earlier this fall for the Duke game.

"Well, I'm excited about the offer," he stated. "They are really good and they use their wide receivers.

"Anytime I go to a game I see if I can fit in with the system, I think I could at Virginia Tech. They throw the ball quite a bit. They also mentioned I could run track there."

While the 6-foot-1, 175-pounder has plans to visit, he doesn't know when.

"I'm not going to be able to make the Virginia game," he said. "Coach Stinespring talked about an official, but they haven't told me any dates."

The Hokies are now the third school to offer joining Connecticut and Virginia. Who else is interested?

"I haven't gotten an offer, but Boston College has been in touch."

Knowles doesn't claim a favorite and added he wants to find out more about schools with his official visits before any sort of decision is made.

In the meantime, Knowles just wrapped up his season in recent weeks and is now focusing his attention on indoor track.

"I started track on Monday," he said. "I won states in certain events, the 300, 55 meter and long jump last season. I want to win them all and I'll probably go to nationals this year."
