Decision time for French

After their second straight upset win the Iowa State Football playoffs, the Cedar Rapids Kennedy Cougars celebrated the victory with a little Hokey Pokey. Could that be a sign of things to come for Cougar star Christian French? The four star prospect has narrowed his list of schools down to three with a decision possibly coming very soon.

The 6-foot-6 and 230 pound athlete was all smiles on Monday night after the Cougars knocked off North Scott, 13-7 in front of a packed house in Eldridge, Iowa.

"I'm so excited for this team right now, speechless really," French said. "We had the losses in the regular season, but we are playing well at the right time of the year and we are looking to run the table."

Next up for the Cougars will be a date with traditional state power, Bettendorf, but before that game is played, the U.S. Army All American could make his college choice known. That decision could come as soon as the end of this week.

"I'm anxious to get it done," he said. "I was planning on making my choice on Wednesday, but I wanted all of my family to be there. It might be later this week or over the weekend."

With the decision just around the corner, has French already made up his mind on which school he will choose?

"Not yet, but I have narrowed it down to three schools: Iowa, Notre Dame, and Oregon."

All three schools have received official visit and French says that he will not be taking any more official trips. His most recent visit was the official trip to the University of Iowa for the game against Wisconsin. French was hosted on his visit by fellow Cedar Rapids native, Keenan Davis.

"It was a great visit," he said. "Unfortunately Iowa lost that game, but it was a great chance to meet more of the players and get to see the facilities again. It's a great program that continues to do great things."

French says that he hopes to make his decision in the next few days. He weighs out the sales pitch he has been given by all three schools.

Oregon: Oregon is far away from home and they have offered me to play the tight end position. They are doing real well this year and I would have a chance to come in right away and maybe make an impact.

Iowa: At Iowa, they have offered me as a receiver and Coach Campbell is one of the best receiver coaches in the country. As Keenan Davis told me, it's close to home, but far enough away to feel like you are away from home.

ND: With Notre Dame, they want me to play outside linebacker, so it is totally different.

Will distance play a role in his decision?

"It is important to my family, but not necessary important to me. I am going to go to the best place where I can fit in and where I can play."
