Barksdale enjoys visits

One of the benefits of being a top high school football prospect is the opportunity to attend some of the top college football games around the country.

Already Solon, Ohio junior wide receiver Tres Barksdale has received invitations to attend games at Michigan, Ohio State and Notre Dame.

"It's just amazing to be able to see all these different places and games," Barksdale said. "

Two weeks ago the 6-foot-2, 170-pounder attended Michigan's season opener against Connecticut.

"It was good," he said. "We got there late and had to leave early because I had a conflicting family event."

On Saturday Barksdale made his second visit to Columbus. He was treated to a big-time performance from the Buckeyes, who defeated Miami, 36-24.

"The game wa great," he said. "I really felt great about everything. It was just a nice stadium to be at and a great game to go to."

During his visit, Barksdale had the opportunity to talk to OSU assistant coaches Taver Johnson and Darrell Hazell.

"They were happy to see me down there and we talked about my game the night before and how I did at camp this summer," Barksdale said. "They said they would try to get me back down there."

That return visit will happen this weekend when Ohio State hosts Ohio University.

Over the summer Barksdale camped with Ohio State. He didn't feel like he turned in a strong performance but he received positive feedback from the OSU coaching staff.

Barksdale appreciates all the interest he has received from college coaches and he's hoping to soon turn that interest into a scholarship offer.

"It just means I have to go out and work that much harder to become better," he said.

So far this season Barksdale has caught seven passes for 212 yards and has scored three touchdowns.

Solon is off to a 3-0 start after last week's win over Mentor. This week they face another 3-0 program in a game against Parma.

"We have another chance to prove ourselves," Barksdale said.
