Gambrell makes it five for the Bucks
The Buckeyes picked up their 5th in-state commitment for the class of 2011 on Tuesday when Toledo (Ohio) Rogers high school cornerback DerJuan Gambrell gave his pledge to the Ohio State coaching staff. The 6-foot-2, 180-pounder had maintained all along that the Buckeyes were his clear favorite and today's commitment only confirmed that of being true.
Gambrell made his way down to Columbus with his high school head coach in mid-February to check things out and before leaving campus had an offer from the Buckeyes in hand. Gambrell currently holds an offer from Toledo as well but once the Buckeyes got on board pretty much everyone knew how this one was going to end up.
It is not often that a player of his height have the ability to play cornerback well but people familiar with his game have praised Gambrell on having good hips and excellent cover skills. The Buckeyes will be losing two cornerbacks after the 2010 season with the graduation of Chimdi Chekwa and Devon Torrence.
Some recruiting critics get worried when a name comes out of nowhere in the recruiting game but the Ohio State coaching staff is more than aware of what Gambrell can do after having him in on campus last year and also with a good relationship with Toledo Rogers high school.
We will have more on this brand new commitment including reactions from Gambrell himself later this afternoon
