Illinois OL to visit Michigan State

One of the top offensive line prospects in the Midwest for the class of 2011 is Brian Bobek of Palentine, Illinois. was able to get the latest news on the 6-foot-2,278-pound prospect and found out that Bobek will be in East Lansing in the near future. Find out more about this top Spartan target.

Last summer was able to see Brian Bobek perform at the Michigan state summer camp. At the camp, Bobek was one of the top performers in attendance. He worked with the highest group, despite being a year younger than the other prospects in there. We spoke with the father of Bobek last night and got some details about his recruitment.

"I want to let you know that Brian, my wife, and I are going to visit Michigan State on Sunday night and Monday morning. After finishing up at MSU, we're going to head over to Ann Arbor to visit Michigan. We will be spending some time with football training staff, academic advisers, and position coaches at both schools as well as having some time with Coach Dantonio and Coach Rodriguez. We are very much looking forward to visiting both schools as they are two of the most outstanding football programs in the Big Ten."

The Spartans have yet to offer Bobek, but apparently that could change this weekend.

"We have had a good line of communication with Coach Dan Roushar since last summer's camp. He told us a couple weeks ago that Brian was the #1 center on their board. Brian was offered by Ohio State and Purdue following his visits to those schools last month. We're hopeful that will be the case with MSU."

We asked Jeff Bobek what his and Brian's impression was of Michigan State after camping there last summer.
"One thing that we would say about last summer's camp was that we really liked the way Coach Roushar coaches the O-line. A lot of energy. Personally, he's a great guy. I went to high school with him (Clinton HS, in Iowa) though I am two years his senior. His dad was my high school sophomore football coach and one of the best coaches I've ever had."

Many of the latest reports on the internet have listed Bobek as a strong lean to the Ohio State Buckeyes. We asked if that is indeed the case at this point?
"Brian favors Ohio State, but he will consider all of the attributes of each of the schools that offer before coming to a conclusion in the near future."

That decision should come in the next few weeks and whatever school Bobek decides to attend will have a strong addition to their overall class and an especially good start on the offensive line.

"Following these visits, we feel confident that Brian will be able to come to some conclusions and narrow his choices if not commit to his school of choice. We are targeting a commitment by the end of March unless Brian feels he needs additional time to consider his options. However, the final list of schools that Brian will consider include Michigan, Michigan State, Ohio State, and Purdue"

As most Michigan state fans are aware of, Head Coach Mark Dantonio prefers to offer prospect in person if it is logistically possible. For that reason we would not be surprised at all if Bobek receives his Spartans scholarship while in East Lansing.

Looking at how Michigan State has recruited on the offensive line the last few years, a player like Bobek would be an excellent addition. Coach Roushar has done a fine job of bringing in some massive tackle prospect like Skyler Schofner, David Barrent and Henry Conway. An interior player like Bobek would have an excellent opportunity to work his way into the 2-deeps quickly at the center spot. will be sure to follow-up with Bobek father his visit and get some quotes about his thoughts of the Spartan program and Michigan State University.
