The Ohio State men's basketball team just got bigger but the team won't be able to reap the benefits until the 2009-2010 season.

Ohio State sports information released on Thursday afternoon that Alabama-Birmingham center Zisis Sarikopoulos (ZIZ-is SAR-uh-cope-uh-lis) will transfer to Ohio State and be eligible to play after sitting out a year per NCAA transfer rules.

The 7-foot, 265-pound center is from Athens, Greece and played on the Under-18 Greece National team and also played in the Under-18 European Championships. While playing for Olympiakos B.C. (Greek club team) the new Buckeye averaged 20 points and 16 rebounds per game.

"Zisis will give us a physical presence and some size," Matta said in a university issued press release. "We have a year to work with him on getting stronger and learning our system. He entered college at only 17 years old. He will help immediately in practice. We are excited about his decision to join our program."
