November 1, 2007 Tuesday was a big day for DeVier Posey. The LaSalle High School standout and Ohio State commitment was honored as a U.S. Army All-American. The honor is something that Posey doesn't take lightly, and it was obvious just how important the invitation was when Cincinnati Bengal Chad Johnson showed up to help Posey celebrate.Hard work is something that Posey puts in all the time. He has consistently improved on the football field since the start of his high school career, and that work all paid off for him when he was named an All-American. "The Army thing was really nice," said Posey. "I think that it was something I worked for, it was a goal of mine when I started out, and it feels good to achieve something that you have worked hard for." Making the honor even more special was when the man simply known as "Ocho Cinco" showed up. Johnson, who is Posey's favorite player, made an appearance to support his young protégée. "For Chad to be there, my favorite player, it was just icing on the cake," said Posey. "I kind of knew he was coming because I asked him to come. I have gotten to know Chad; he is a real good guy." Obviously the biggest reason Posey was selected for the U.S. Army game was because of his stellar play this year. As a senior he led LaSalle with 48 receptions, 776 yards, and eight touchdowns. Posey however wasn't all that impressed with his season because LaSalle fell short of the playoffs. "Personally I didn't (accomplish my goals), because I personally I wanted to win as a team," Posey said. "I feel I didn't accomplish anything. I think that the only thing that matters is winning. At the end of the day that is all that matters, so I didn't accomplish what I wanted to accomplish. Looking back, I mean, you can sulk about it, but you can't do anything about it now, so you have to look forward to the future. I am going to work hard for the future, and hopefully remember how it feels when you lose because you can use that as motivation." Maybe the biggest thing for Posey about being named to the game was the fact that he will be able to suit up with Mike Adams, Jake Stoneburner, Ben Buchanan, and several other OSU commitments. "I am looking forward to it," Posey said about being on the same team as many other OSU class of 2008 members. "We all have good friend relationships off the field, but there is a kind of friendship chemistry on the field that we don't have yet. A team chemistry, I am looking forward to having before we get to Ohio State, just being teammates and knowing them like that, I am really looking forward to that." This weekend Posey will have the chance to see many of those guys when he visits Ohio State to take in the game against Wisconsin. Also in attendance will be top quarterback prospect, Terrelle Pryor. However do not expect Posey to be giving Pryor the recruiting pitch. "Terrelle already knows how I feel, and knows I want him to throw me the ball," Posey said. "I am not going to be there just recruiting him and stuff. We are all there to have a good time and just be friends and have fun. We will be cheering on Ohio State to beat Wisconsin. I am just looking forward to everyone being there. (Willie) Mobley is coming up; I am looking forward to meeting him in person. I have talked to him on the phone a lot, but I look forward to meeting him in person. Really I am just looking forward to hanging out with the guys on a Saturday afternoon." One thing Posey will be doing, though, is rooting on his future teammates. Seeing them as the number one team in the country just has Posey thinking about how hard he will have to work to get on the field. "It is good seeing (OSU number one), but the only thing I can do is cheer since I am not there yet," he said. "Once I get a part of them, I know what I have to work for. They are the number one team in the country; they have number one guys who work really hard. Playing for the number one team in the country you know you can't come in slacking, you have to come in ready to go. Them being number one two years in a row just lets me know the standard that I have to be ready to come in and play at." |
