Thompson is ready for camps

A month ago at the Cleveland Under Armour Combine, BuckeyeGrove.com had the first look at rising junior safety Jayme Thompson. Since that time, the 6-foot-2, 175-pound prospect from Toledo (Ohio) Central Catholic has continued to impress on the camp circuit. On Thursday, Thompson will continue his assault on the camp circuit as he'll be in Columbus for Ohio State's two-day underclassmen camp.
"I'm extremely excited about the Ohio State camp this week," said Thompson. "I'm really excited to go out there and compete and see where I am with the best kids in the nation."
Earlier this week Thompson performed well up at the Wisconsin camp, running a 4.53 40-yard dash. Last week, Thompson's impressive performance at the Bowling Green camp earned him his first verbal scholarship offer.
"I was just extremely shocked, I wasn't expecting it at all," Thompson said of his first offer. "I was just going out there to get a workout in before some of these big camps and just get some experience."
With each camp that passes, Thompson says he is getting an even better feel for what he needs to be doing out there and his confidence continues to grow.
"I definitely am (getting more comfortable," Thompson said. "I think I'm prepared and at this point we're not doing anything that I haven't seen before."
After Thompson camps with Ohio State, he has at least two more big camps that he will be looking to attend before the end of the summer.
"I'll be camping at Michigan State and then I have an unofficial visit to West Virginia the day before their one-day camp," he said. "I'm maybe going to Eastern Michigan, too."
For now though, Thompson's full attention is on impressing at Ohio State this week.
"I'm definitely working on my technique," he explained. "I'm worrying more about that than my speed. Of course I want to be fast but making sure my technique is right and going hard in the drills (are most important)."
Thompson is eager to return to the same facility that he performed well at during the Ohio State NIKE Camp.
"I'm definitely (confident) because I know (the facility)," he said. "The facilities are super nice and I'm excited to go back there."
