The Ohio State Buckeyes are closing in on their second commitment in as many days. After picking up an offer from the Buckeyes on Wednesday evening, Pickerington (Ohio) North offensive lineman Pat Elflein is expected to inform head coach Luke Fickell of his intentions on Thursday. BuckeyeGrove.com caught up with the 6-foot-3, 260-pound prospect on Wednesday night.
"That's the offer I was waiting for," said Elflein. "Coach Fickell told my coach (Tom Phillips) about the offer and then coach told me."
Elflein is a standout on both sides of the football for Pickerington North but the offer from Ohio State is as an offensive guard/center. Fickell and company won't have to wait long for a decision on Elflein's college future.
"I'm going to commit tomorrow," he said. " I'm going over there tomorrow to see coach (Fickell) and let him know in person."
Elflein previously was weighing offers from Northwestern and Purdue before Ohio State entered the fray. For Elflein, the opportunity to play for his childhood favorite is something he has always dreamed of.
"I just grew up in Ohio and I've always been a Buckeye," he said. "My dream has always been to play at Ohio State and now it has come true so that's where I'm going to play."
Elflein's commitment would make it the sixth from a Columbus area prospect in the class and the second in 24 hours.
"It's a good feeling," Elflein said of joining a Central Ohio heavy class. "Everybody is a Buckeye, they love Ohio State."
One interesting dynamic will be Elflein joining forces with Jacoby Boren. Boren plays just down the road at Pickerington Central, the bitter rivals of Elflein's North squad.
"We're going to be rivals and then we're going to be teammates," Elflein said. "I'm going to go all out when we're on the field against each other and off the field we're going to be teammates."
