Colorado lineman gets a look at CSU practice
Interest in Windsor (Colo.) offensive lineman Joey O'Connor continues to grow at a rapid pace. The 6-foot-4, 278-pounder from Windsor already holds scholarship offers from Penn State and Colorado State, but the phone calls are becoming more frequent now that the spring has come.
"I have heard from CU, Utah, Michigan and CSU (among others)," O'Connor said Sunday. "(Michigan) is telling me they are interested in me and want to see me at their camp and come down right now to their spring game or spring practice. Utah told me they were ready to offer and want to meet me and get to know me better.
"I never thought this would be happening. I thought maybe CSU or maybe CU, but I never thought this would be happening."
While some of the big boys of college football are in his ear, O'Connor has made time for the hometown Colorado State Rams. O'Connor was at a spring practice last week for the Rams and said he was impressed.
"It was good. It was a lot of fun," he said. "I like how they got after it and then had fun at the same time. I really like (CSU offensive line coach Pat) Meyer and the way he coaches. It was nice to see him in the coaching setting.
"I got to talk to Coach Meyer a little bit after practice and I got to meet the offensive line and talk to them about Coach Meyer. They said they really like him and got an insight on how Coach Meyer coaches and how he does things. It was nice to get that insight."
O'Connor's off-season football rounds will include summer trips to Penn State's Senior Camp on June 24-25; the Colorado State camp in July 30; a visit to Manhattan (Kan.) and potentially Norman (Okla.) later in the season.
