Chippewas looking to add punter Drew Kaser
Central Michigan is getting tight on scholarships with signing day approaching, but there will still be plenty of room to address one position. That position? Punter. And it's important because the Chippewas graduate senior Brett Hartmann
and they currently do not have another punter on the roster. With that in mind, CMU has been actively looking at punting prospects, and they welcomed Strongville (OH) Walsh Jesuit's Drew Kaser to campus last weekend.
"Currently I have an offer from Central Michigan, I have a greyshirt offer from Western Michigan, and nothing so far from Ohio State," explained Kaser. "So far I have taken a visit to Western, which I visited in December. Central Michigan I was at this past weekend. I have no visits this weekend but the following weekend I am heading to Ohio State."
Kaser has made two of his three scheduled official visits and he reflected on his recent trips to MAC rivals Central Michigan and Western Michigan.
"My Western and Central visits were both good and I was surprised pleasantly by both," said Kaser. "At Central ,I liked the facilities, stadium, coaches, academics, and just the program as a whole. My host was Alex Niznak. It went really well with him. He is freshman in college and I just asked about how the transition and everything is. He just said how big the difference is from high school to college and how the transfer from the two has been different."
With signing day coming up Kaser has to decide on the school right for him. Right now he is planning on making his decision soon with the majority of his visits in the rearview mirror.
"Right now, my top in no order it is Central Michigan, Western Michigan, Ohio State, and Texas AM," said Kaser. "I will probably decide next week at the earliest."
The Chippewas have the edge in that they are the only school Kaser would be on scholarship to start the 2011 season, and it also helps CMU's cause that they have immediate playing time available.
