Two visits set for Washington
Missouri City (Texas) Fort Bend Marshall athlete DeAndre Washington has continued to be courted by a few of Tech's former-division rivals. Even though they're still aggressively pursuing the 2011 Tech commit, Washington cites his relationship with assistant coach Chad Scott as one of the reasons why the Red Raiders will more-than-likely remain in the driver's seat.
"Besides the coaches at Tech, I've also been hearing a lot from Baylor, Missouri, and Oklahoma State. I know there were some others who have come by my school this week, but I'm not sure who they were," Washington said. "My relationship with Coach Scott has made it easy for me to be comfortable with my decision to go with Tech, though. I talk to him all the time and we've got a really good relationship because of that. He's a cool guys for sure, and with him being so young it allows us to relate to each other a lot easier than some other coaches I've met."
Washington hosted Scott on an in-home visit a few weeks ago, and he's also had an in-home with coaches from Baylor. So far he has no others scheduled. He does, however, have two official visits planned for the month of January.
"I haven't taken any officials yet, but that will change next month. I'm going to take a trip the weekend of the 14th to see Oklahoma State, and then I'll be back in Lubbock for an official with Tech on the 21st. I think all of the other commits are supposed to be there too on that weekend. It should be a really good time."
The 5-foot-9, 183-pounder says that he might also schedule visits with Baylor or Colorado, though he's not sure if he'll take any others at all. Regardless, Washington was quick to reaffirm his commitment to Texas Tech.
"Everything is still the same. I talk to the coaches at Tech all the time. I'm 100% a Red Raider," he said. "I've always said that I'd be down with them until someone shows me a better opportunity, which I think is fair. So far, nobody else has been able to come close to doing that. So I'm still all about Texas Tech. I don't expect that to change between now and signing day.
Washington committed to Tech in August over offers from Arizona, Baylor, Boise State, Colorado, Houston, Iowa State, Kansas State, Louisville, Memphis, North Texas, Oklahoma State, Tulsa, and Vanderbilt.
