Leahy familiar with Buckeyes
Junior defensive end Ryan Leahy already has picked up a verbal scholarship offer from Cincinnati and has drawn interest from dozens of other major college football programs, including Ohio State.
Leahy, a 6-foot-5, 245-pounder from LaSalle High School in Cincinnati, is no stranger to the Buckeyes. He attended camp in Columbus over the summer and has made several visits to campus to visit his sister, an Ohio State sophomore.
"It's a huge school and a great campus," Leahy said. "I liked it a lot."
Leahy has yet to meet the Buckeyes coaches, but he likes what he has seen out of the football program.
"It's a great campus and a great atmosphere to play in, but I want to meet the coaches to see if I like the program," he said. "(The coaches) have been calling my coach. They wanted me to come up to the game on Saturday but I couldn't."
As a junior, Leahy posted 74 tackles and four sacks to lead LaSalle to a 9-1 regular season record and a spot in the Ohio Division I, Region 4 playoffs.
Leahy said his strengths are related to his speed. There aren't many players his size running a 4.78-second time in the 40-yard dash.
"My strengths are my pass rush," he said. "I am tons faster than all the linemen that I have faced."
Overall, Leahy was satisfied with his play in 2010, but he knows he has room to improve.
"I did great personally," he said. "My coaches tell me I improved every week and got tons better."
