Florida DB commits to Tar Heels
Clearwater (Fla.) Countryside safety Alex Dixon took an official visit to North Carolina over the weekend and by the end of the trip he knew where he wants to spend the next few years of his life.
Dixon committed to North Carolina on Sunday morning, shortly before boarding a flight to return to his home in Florida.
He went on the record after returning home and discussed his decision to commit to the Tar Heels.
"I committed this morning," Dixon said. "I just felt comfortable there. That was one of the schools I could really see myself playing at. They've got great academics and great coaches."
Dixon said he is a solid verbal commitment for the Tar Heels and he will not be taking any other official visits between now and Signing Day.
It was his second trip to Chapel Hill with his first being an unofficial visit over the summer. This trip allowed him to get a closer look at what life will be like at the school, and needless to say, he was impressed.
"I enjoyed talking to all of the coaches and meeting the players, like Kendric Burney and Deunta Williams ... mostly all the defensive backs.
"It was nice just seeing things I didn't get a chance to see the last time I was there. It was good to meet with all the coaches and everybody."
North Carolina fell to Virginia Tech 26-10 but Dixon's commitment means some good news came out of the weekend for the Heels. Dixon is ranked the No. 26 safety in the nation by Rivals.com.
Dixon had taken an official visit to Kentucky back in October the weekend the Wildcats defeated South Carolina. He is the 20th verbal commitment for the Tar Heels in the Class of 2011.
